By no means an exhaustive history, this series attempts to chronicle the many talents of women working in animation. Lost to time until recently, FLOWER FAIRIES by Bessie Mae Kelley is the earliest-known hand-drawn animated film directed by a woman. Other women artists who worked within the animation studio system were largely uncredited for their contributions, while still others collaborated with male colleagues to create their own studios, such as Joy Batchelor & John Halas (represented here by THE OWL AND THE PUSSYCAT) and Morton & Millie Goldsholl (INTERGALACTIC ZOO).
